The New Language is a project that engages all the new forms of communication that the online era brought to us. Inspired by the book Because Internet: Understanding the New Rules of Language (2019) by Gretchen, McCulloch, the Feels Good Man (2020) documentary directed by Arthur Jones, the Elisa Nelissen article How digital media is changing the way we talk, and the essay On some Aspects of Internet slang by Liana Barseghyan, our work reflects the subjects explored in all of the above: Emojis and Emoticons, Punctuation and Accentuation, Acronyms and Abbreviations, Slang Expressions and Memes.
Wether this newfound linguistic patterns are a good or bad thing is beyond the point we offer: we propose instead a look into the world of internet vernacular. With the goal of exploring the nuances of the digital language, our list presents this non-standard and unofficial form of communicating.
